Good Life

by Caleb Hart

/

about

“The original intention of the song came from a chat with @wreneye1 and a Cree saying that really to me is about essentially using your subconscious mind to shape your reality. Focusing on the good and the positive reinforcement of creation.
When Caleb and I started writing verses however, the connotation of the Good Life took a more sardonic twist. The song became about the same systems that keep us locked in war, social strife, patriotism, religion, climate chaos, all while selling us the Good Life and threatening to take it away when we dissent.
This is a battle for survival.
It’s the struggle for Justice” - Buckman Coe

lyrics

Complexities
fixation on the premise of superiority
Guess yuh could say dat the Complex it tease
call it a bit of a tickle
dat we receive
Loyalties quite fickle
call dat a Loyal tease
By d uppah class dem
government Authorities (author a tease)
Trying to re-write I and I biography
Happening constantly
As they carry out the plan of the royal tease
(Switch)
But I and I cyah be silenced
For as long as I am breathing
Mamas papas still crying
Bredrins sistrens dey bleeding
Revolutionary sounds is what we’ll be singing
Riddimic vibrations of ancestral healing
(Switch)
Blood sweat and tears in d soil
As we planting up the seeds
(Planting up d seeds)
Teaching all d pickney dem
About inity
Learning from our children
How to flow like d breeze
No longer fixated on the discrepancies
Living the good life
Beautiful reality
(It’s a beautiful reality…)

Welcome to the Good life
This is the good life
Welcome to the good life
This is the good life

(Buckman Coe)
Emergencies
I feel so much at times
I find it hard to breath
Eyes locked on grief
Emerging tragedies
Yearning for reprieve
To grow hope from belief
Words that we speak
Spells that reveal
The future yet concealed
I see you and not newsfeeds
Beyond right and wrong
Breathed out in a song
What is truly real
I will meet you on that field

meet yuh on d bakkle field
could link mih on d corner
forever fists held high
we deyah wit meh daughter
river bank or ocean
city or town
deep bush back ah yard
firm footed pon d ground
